ISLAMABAD: On 26th Feb, some fighting jets of Indian Air Force (IAF) violated Pakistan’s air space and according to India, they dropped 1000 kg bombs on certain targets, near Balakot, inside Pakistan.
A day later, three Generals, representing India’s Army, Navy and Air Force, were asked by the Indian government to brief media over the incident. Major General Surrinder Singh Mahal of Indian Army and Air Vice Marshal RGK Kapoor of IAF opted to take main questions from the media after making a small briefing. During the briefing, AVM Kapoor very confidently said that IAF fighter jets targeted a terrorists’ infrastructure in Balakot area of Pakistan and damaged it and caused huge number of casualties over there. However when asked as to what was the number of casualties and that what were the details of the damage to the infrastructure, Indian AVM, again with even more confidence, said that he had no details of it and added that the IAF Pilots did hit the target that was given to them on the basis of actionable intelligence reports and destroyed as per what they intended to. similarly, when the Indian army’s rep, General Surrinder was asked as to what were their intelligence reports about casualties and infrastructural damage after the IAF strikes, he said that intelligence matters cannot be discussed.
In the background of this ‘high profile and highly informative” press briefing by the Indian Generals, The Daily Mail opted to go further investigations to dig out more facts about what the Indian Generals asserted about IAF’s strike in Pakistan .
First of all, the archives of The Daily Mail searched over the issue. These archives, where unfolded many other incidents and facts, there it also came up that the Indian army and Intelligence agencies were also having a phobia for Pakistan’s ISI having the technology of using birds for operations in India. The archives indicated that a couple of years back, Indians claimed that they had arrested a Pigeon that was an ISI agent, sent from Pakistan to India to do spying. It was not a blooper or a joke but it was claimed at the highest official level and very seriously reported by Indian media.
In fact the said Pigeon was taken into ‘custody’ by Indian Police and RAW authorities via a formal ‘arrest’ and both Indian police and its intelligence officials of RAW conducted ‘scientific interrogations’ with the poor Pigeon, saying that there could be a very strong possibility of presence of a ‘transmitter’ or ‘secret cameras’, ‘installed’ by ISI inside the said Pigeon. “This is a rare instance of a bird from Pakistan being spotted here. We have caught a few spies here. The area is sensitive, given its proximity to Jammu, where infiltration is quite common,” local police superintendent Rakesh Kaushal told national and international media, on 14 October 2016.
The investigations by this scribe led to the fact that the Indian intelligence did not leave the investigations in this direction and the investigations were still going on into the matter when the suicide bombing incident took place at Pullwama in the Indian Occupied Kashmir.
Well placed sources at New Delhi informed that while the RAW and MI officials were still busy in concluding the ISI Pigeon issue, they were informed that the suicide bomber at Pullwama was identified as one Adil Ahmad Dar and the explosives had most probably come from Pakistan. Upon this, an alert level was raised at RAW and Indian Military Intelligence headquarters and a joint meeting over the issue was held and a joint probe team was established. Obviously, the RAW officials, already probing the Pakistani Pigeon matter were also placed in the joint team. The sources say that the moment these investigators came to the Urdu meaning of the Dar or Dahr ( the family name of the suicide bomber of Pullwama, panic button were pressed at the RAW-MI joint probe team’s meeting room. It was because the literary meaning of Dar turned out be a formation of birds while flying. The Pigeon investigators had reason to conclude that the Pullwama incident could very easily be associated to the ISI’s Pigeon issue and that this time the things had gone to further advancements as now more birds, besides Pigeons were being used and the suicide bomber at Pullwama was the ground handler and facilitator of this new wing of flying operators. The joint RAW-MI team made some rapid but concrete investigations into the matter and came up with the solid conclusion that the Pakistan’s ISI had formed a Special Birds Squad to provide tactical support to the freedom fighters in IOK. The RAW-MI joint investigations further revealed that the Special Birds Division (SBD) was being used to provide ammunition and explosives to Kashmiri freedom fighters and the birds were bringing the explosives from Pakistan to IOK through their beaks in the darkness of night and dropping the same at fixed spots in the IOK for months, could be years. These joint RAW-MI investigations further revealed the Command and Control headquarter had been established at a wilderness in the Balakot vicinity of the KPK province in Pakistan. on the basis of field informers, the joint RAW-MI investigations further discovered that the Command and Control Headquarter of this SBS was comprising some four Pine trees while a few more Pine trees were being used by the SBD Command as a training and recruitment facility where news members were recruited and trained by SBD trainers while the SBS Command was harboring a human family in an adjacent mud house that was being used as a Reserve Supply Depot and Dining Area. The joint RAW-MI investigations also found that the SBS’s incumbent Commander was a Crow and not a Pigeon and the strength of all SBS trained and UT members was around 350 to 400 with Crows performing the Command and Staff duties, Martins given the Supply and Transport wing duties, Doves being used for Honey Trapping operations in India , Pigeons were given the Signals and Communication duties. The RAW-MI joint investigations team’s finding were sent to India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Kumar Doval, who after having a detailed study of the report, recommended that a rapid strike be carried out to destroy the infrastructure of the Control and Command as well as recruiting and training facility of the SBD at Balakot and to eliminate the Top Command, identified as the Black Crow .
The sources say that the NSA’s recommendation was straightaway endorsed by Premier Modi’s Prime Minister Office (PMO) and the Air Chief and Army Chief were given the task to execute. Upon this, the IAF’s Air Officer Commander in Chief of the Western Command Air Marshal Chnadrashekhran Hari Kumar planned a comprehensive airstrike by a formation of IAF fighter jets, comprising MiG-21, Mirage 2000 and SU 30. The task given to these IAF raiders was clear and it was to hit the given targets of the abovementioned Control and Command and adjoining facilities of SBD and take some photos of the destroyed facility after the hits. Since technically the target was a “Division”, the IAF planned to send as many as 12 fighter jets to hit the targets. The IAF jets came, and as per instruction, hit the given targets, dropped pay loads and successfully destroyed three to four trees that were the Control and Command headquarters and other facility and also managed to eliminate a Black Cow , the ailing Top SBD Commander, while all other personnel of the SBD already flew away to safe spots after hearing the noise of the Jets. While the IAF raiders were about to lock-in for taking photos, the PAF Jets scrambled and the IAF team had to make a pronto exit and even dropped the fuel tanks etc to get extra speed.
Upon return, the IAF team filed its operational report but it had no evidence and no photos. Upon this, it was decided to send a small team the next day to take photos and collect visuals of the destroyed target and to eliminate the remaining SBD personnel. For this Wing Commander Abhi Nanda was directed to take the Mission on his MiG-21. Wing Commander Abhi Nanda, commonly known as Nandoo by his colleagues, entered Pakistani Air Space and started looking for any remaining SBD operator as his target. Nandoo soon found a flying object on his Cockpit Screen and started getting closer to the target. He admitted it in his statements later. But as Nandoo’s Mig-21 approached closer to the flying target, it instead of being a Pigeon or Crow, suddenly turned out to be a PAF’s JF-17 Thunder and before Nandoo could realize that it was him being the target not him going for a target, Squadron Leader Siddiqui’s JF-17 had locked Nandoo’s MiG21 and straightaway hit it down.
In the background of these findings, it surfaces crystal clear that both general Surrinder and AVM Kapoor did not hide the facts. They just told what their IAF team had done. They admitted that IAF hit team just hit the given target in Balakot area, they admitted that they had no evidence about the casualties or the damage to infrastructure and they admitted that they did everything on the available intelligence reports and guidance and in the end , they also admitted that they had lost Nandoo and his MiG21 to Pakistan. Yes! they did destroy three to four Pine trees and killed a Black Crow near Balakot, all evidences are out there about it, no doubt at all. And Nandoo? Yes Nandoo also admitted that he had just started looking for his target when he himself became a target and got very effectively hit. For speaking the truth with honesty and grace, both General Surrinder and AVM Kapoor must be given top military award by Indian government while Nandoo be made Information Minister of India.
