A Chinese kitchen appliance firm, an official partner of France’s national team, is on the hook for 79 million Yuan (11.8 million US dollars) worth of refunds in the wake of France winning this year’s World Cup, reports thepaper.cn.
Vatti launched a marketing campaign to promote its links to France’s World Cup squad, promising people who bought certain products from June 1st to July 3rd would get a full refund on their purchase if France won the tournament.
France defeated Croatia 4-2 in the final.
Local Vatti distributors will be responsible for issuing the refunds.
The company says the nearly 12 million US dollar hit had already been factored into its annual budget.
