A Canadian game developer has apologetically pulled the plug on a mobile game still in development amid outcry among Asian communities worldwide over its racist portrayals of Chinese.
Developer Big-O-Tree (which can also be read as “bigotry”) said Thursday it would be halting plans for Dirty Chinese Restaurant, adding its release was “not in anyone’s best interest.”
“This game was not created with an intentional interest of inflicting harm or malice against Chinese culture,” read the company’s press release.
The company has since pulled all marketing for the game on social media.
