A set of photos of models of three buildings from the Old Summer Palace, or Yuanming Yuan, has become popular on the internet recently, China Youth Daily reported on October 20.
The person in charge of the creative team, surnamed Wang, said that they started building the models this year. So far they have completed three buildings, Yuanyingguan or immense ocean observatory, Dashuifa or grand waterworks, and Guanshuifa or throne for viewing the waterworks. The original buildings were destroyed by two invasions many years ago.
“This is the first time we have used blocks to recreate destroyed Chinese architecture. We received help from an expert with the Old Summer Palace, Liu Yang. He provided many photos for us to use as a reference,” Wang said.
Liu said that recreating the Old Summer Palace as a landscape model is of great significance, as it provides a new way to introduce the history and culture of the historic site.
The series of models will be exhibited at the Old Summer Palace in the future, allowing people of all ages to learn about China’s historic buildings.
