The last three sections of the Beijing-Xinjiang expressway (G7) opened to public marking the completion of China’s longest expressway.
With a total length of 2768 kilometers, the highway links Beijing and Urumqi, the capital city of northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
It will shorten the journey between the two cities by 1,300 kilometers.
The Beijing-Xinjiang expressway is not only the world’s longest desert expressway, but is a key project in China’s “Belt & Road Initiative,” which ties together 60 countries and regions in mutual trade and cultural cooperation.
