MARDAN: Making a confessional statement before the court, Imran Ali – the main suspect who shot on Mashal Khan – has said on Saturday that he had ideological differences with slain Journalism student.
Confessing of his crime, he apprised the civil judge that he blamed 23-year-old student of Abdul Wali Khan University (AWKU) for uttering offensive remarks against the religion.
“Mashal Khan was my class mate and I, deviating from his thoughts, blamed him for speaking against the religion”, the suspect said.
In a press conference earlier, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Mardan, Alam Khan Shinwari, claimed to arrest the main suspect.
In light of eye witnesses’ account, the DIG Mardan had claimed that Imran Ali opened fire at Mashal Khan and shot him twice.
It is worth mentioning here that Mashal Khan was a journalism student at AWKU in Mardan who was shot and then lynched to death by a violent mob of students allegedly including university employees on April 13.
The police in the wake of lynching incident have arrested 47 suspects while two others were allegedly at large and taken refuge in Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA).
