The 10-member delegation, which will take part in the two-day meeting, comprises India’s Indus Water Commissioner PK Saxena, MEA officials and technical experts.
During the talks, the three ongoing projects on River Chenab will come under discussion.
According to experts, India has violated the Indus Water Treaty by constructing five large dams. The country has plans to construct a total of 262 dams by 2025 on Pakistan and Kashmir’s water sources.
The 57-year old pact assigned River Ravi, Beas, and Sutlej to India whereas River Chenab, Jehlum, and Sindh were allocated to Pakistan.
As per the agreement, both countries are liable to hold deliberations each year in order to ensure compliance with the treaty and resolve any disputes.
