The corporation added that its maiden flight on water would take place in the second half this year.
Amphibious aircraft can take off and land on both land and water.
Sponsored by Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the AG600 is among the largest amphibious aircraft being developed globally, is China’s first large amphibious aircraft for civil purposes, and will mainly be used to tackle forest fires and for rescue missions on water.
One of three domestically-produced large aircraft, the AG600’s takeoff weight is 53.5 tons, it is 36.9 meters in length, and has a wingspan of 38.8 meters.
The designers say it can also be used for ocean environment examination and protection, law enforcement and supervision on water, first aid provision.
Rivaling similar aircraft worldwide, within 20 seconds, the AG600 can absorb 12 tons of water and transport it to where it’s needed, helping to extinguish fires over an area of 4,000 square meters. It has a maximum range of 4,000 kilometers, can withstand waves as high as two meters, and is able to rescue as many as 50 people at any one time at sea.
The AG600 came off the assembly line on July 23, 2016. A completed amphibious AG600 aircraft went on display at the China International Aviation & Aerospace Exhibition in Zhuhai, Guangdong province, in November 2016.
A total of 17 AG600 aircrafts have been ordered so far and the makers say the market is promising. – CRI
