KARACHI: Coordination committee of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in London has questioned the identity of coordination committee in Pakistan, led by Dr Farooq Sattar by denying on Saturday that there was any difference between the two.
Representatives of MQM London held the first ever premeditated and formal press conference today in Karachi since the division of the organisation in which the leaders categorically have rejected associating any significance to “minus one formula.”
Rangers, deployed in Sindh with exclusive policing powers and Sindh Police sealed the roads leading to Karachi Press Club where the conference was held.
Ishaq Advocate said that founder of the political party nominated him, Amjadullah and Dr Hassan Zafar last night to represent the party’s stance as its coordination committee governed from London.
It should be mentioned here that the press conference has come in a couple of days after law enforcers in London gave a clean chit to party s founder in money laundering case.
The committee has demanded the government and law enforcement agencies to reopen sealed offices of MQM including headquarters in Nine-Zero.
As he addressed the media, Dr Zafar rubbished difference between Muttahida Qaumi Movement London and that of Pakistan which is claimed by Dr Farooq Sattar and the body he leads. Dr Zafar demanded that MQM should be permitted to conduct political activities without any hindrance.
He complained that founder of Muttahida Qaumi Movement was detached with the party by making amendment in the constitution of the political organisation.
Dr Farooq Sattar and Khalid Maqbool got the organisation, founded by the party ‘chief’, “hijacked,” he alleged.
There was no gravity that “minus one formula” could hold in Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Dr Zafar asserted. The representative asserted that MQM gave the deprived section of the society a perspective.
He said that Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) was established by bringing back some persons who sold their conscience. Criticising Mustafa Kamal, chief of PSP and others siding with him, Dr Zafar claimed that they were given bungalows worth millions of Rupees and lavish.
However, he said that the people of Karachi rejected the politics and standing of PSP.
The founder of the political organisation has been residing in London for over two decades in self-imposed exile and was governing the party in Pakistan through proxy votes earned by the representatives here until several of them claimed deatchment with him in August following his anti-Pakistan speech.
