LAHORE: Chief Minister of Punjab, Shehbaz Sharif has announced on Saturday that the government would give at least 0.5 million small-scale farmers, interest-free loans.
The Chief Minister addressed an agricultural conference today and broke the news.
The government, as told by the Chief Minister, would provide the loans to the farmers through Easypaisa mobile accounts, in association with cellular services provider, Telenor.
During his address, CM Shehbaz said that country’s development was linked with the prosperity of the farmers and the entire sector.
Provision of required facilities to the famers was among government’s priorities, he said.
Chief Executive Officer of Telenor Pakistan, Irfan Wahab Khan also took the stage and said that the variety of mobile phone applications over agriculture was being worked upon for betterment and addition to the development in the country.
Punjab Information Technology Board has developed an application for android operating systems for ease of the farmers for which services would be provided by Telenor, he added.
