The policemen were on their way back after acquiring remand of two accused – Imtiaz rind and Khalid alias Bangali – from a court, officials said. The assailants, who were awaiting the police team, ambushed the vehicle as it appeared on Korangi Causeway.
The incident resulted in killing of one policeman, while the attackers managed a clean getaway from the scene after getting their accomplices freed. Another policeman was left critically wounded in the episode, who was shifted to hospital.
This correspondent has learnt that the under custody accused freed in the ambush, were also charged with the murder of a policeman.
