Islamabad: Sheikh Ansar Aziz Mayor of Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation as well as the Chairman of the Capital Development Authority has said that his team and he were trying their best to revive people’s confidence in the Capital Development Authority’s endeavors to provide best municipal and civic facilities. While talking to media here Saturday, Mayor Ansar Aziz was of the view that development work was underway in urban and rural areas without any discrimination.
“We are working on a mega project to make Islamabad the most beautiful city of the country,” he said. Pace of the various development projects will be enhanced and they will be completed within stipulated time. To a question, Mayor Ansar Aziz said job security and all the rights of the employees of the civic agency will be guaranteed and none of them will be deprived of his/her job. We shall rather reward the employees for showing efficiency and dedication in their work, he said.
To a question, Ansar Aziz said the federal government had released Rs12 million for resolving water woes of Islamabad and very soon a comprehensive plan of water supply would be initiated. Sheikh Ansar Aziz who himself supervised disposal wastes of sacrificial animals in the federal capital during three days of Eid while talking to media he said the wastes were scientifically disposed of and it all happened because of the effective policy and dedicated staff of the CDA. More than 55,000 animals were sacrificed during Eid-ul-Azha and disposing of their wastes was a big challenge but it was well done, he said.
After taking over the CDA and Metropolitan corporation’s affairs, Mayor of Islamabad has introduced a number of innovate steps to address public complaints at the earliest. The sanitation directorate has set up 1334 Helpline that registers and resolves complaints of the people with regard to sanitation and disposal of wastes.
The Mayor had appealed to the residents of Islamabad to register their complaints on this number and during the Eid days, thousands of calls were received on this helpline.
In order to let people enjoy the Eid days with their families, electricity was restored to Lakeview Park and parking fee was abolished for access to Faisal Mosque. These two steps were lauded by the general public and the image of public-friendly Mayor was enhanced. In order to address the apprehensions of the CDA employees, a meeting was called the other day in which senior CDA officials and Labour Union leaders participated.
The Mayor said all the privileges and benefits of the CDA employees would be protected. CDA’s old water tankers are being replaced with the new ones and the staff would be asked to wear CDA uniforms. Work on water supply to Islamabad from Ghazi Brotha Dam is also underway, he said. Both urban and rural areas of Islamabad are equally important and their development, upgradation and access to basic civic necessities are my top priority, he said.
