Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court on Thursday directed the Mayor of Islamabad Sh Ansar Aziz to hold dialogue with the CDA labour union and resolve the transfer of assets issue internally. During the course of hearing, Justice Aamer Farooq remarked the employees of CDA were fearing the Mayor, who, now is their chairman as well. Later the court directing the Mayor to resolve all the matters with the employees’ representatives and inform the court about the update by September 20 adjourned the hearing.
It may be mentioned here that now the entire Capital Development Authority has been placed under administrative control of the Mayor of Islamabad and it is most likely the writ petition challenging the transfer of assets will cease to be effective. A couple of days ago the government through a notification handed over the charge of CDA to the Mayor of Islamabad.
Transfer of roughly 10,000 employees of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and handing over 49 wings to MCI have been challenged before the IHC.
The applicants said that they are also stakeholders of the MCI but are “handicapped” to perform their legitimate and lawful functions and duties as prescribed the law. They have requested the court to allow them to be parties in the case.
In the petition regarding handover of the assets of CDA to the MCI, three employees of the civic agency have challenged two notifications issued on June 22 and 27, putting some 49 wings of the CDA, including their assets and liabilities, under the administrative control of the mayor. Azhar Khan Jadoon, Mohammad Nisar Akhtar and Syed Munawar Ali Shah through their counsel Umar Hanif Khichi challenged the validity of the notifications issued by the officials of the Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) and CDA.
