ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday has suggested holding stage-wise general elections of 2018 while reforms committee has rejected the proposal.
According to the sources, ECP presented suggestions to reforms committee that likewise local body elections, coming general elections should also be divided into different phases to overcome several administrative problems.
ECP further suggested that national and provincial elections should be held separately or provincial elections could be divided into different stages.
Responding to these suggestions, the reforms committee had rejected ECPs proposal stating that results of one phase could affect upcoming phases of other constituencies. General elections, as per schedule will be held in a single day, the committee stated.
