MULTAN: Anti-polio campaign was deferred in the city for seven days in wake of security threats.
A three-day drive was to begin on April 25 however, terror attack on polio teams in Karachi’s Orangi Town this week has concerned the authorities in Multan.
Seven policemen were killed in two separate gun attacks executed by eight terrorists who had used four motorcycles.
On Thursday, one of the eight attackers was apprehended by law enforcement agencies while hunt to cop the rest is underway.
The anti-polio drive is pushed to May 2. EDO Health Dr Iftikhar Qureshi said that a plea was moved to CPO to beef up security of the polio workers.
He added that the drive would be initiated as soon as the security is beefed up. At least 1,708 teams would vaccinate more than 7.5 lac children through the course of the campaign, he added.
