KARACHI: Advisor to Sindh Chief Minister (CM) for Information Maula Bakhsh Chandio has criticised the federation for keeping supermodel Ayyan Ali’s name on Exit Control List (ECL) while permitting former president alleged of high treason to leave the country.
Chief Minister s advisor said that he has an issue with government’s silence and not with movement of certain people in and out of the country.
On March 16, Supreme Court (SC) had lifted ban on former president Pervez Musharraf upholding Sindh High Court’s (SHC) order to remove his name from the ECL.
In a short verdict, Chief Justice (CJ) Anwar Zaheer Jamali announced that the government’s appeal had been dismissed. But he said the government or a separate court could technically pass a fresh travel ban if they provided valid reasons.
here are at least four pending cases against Musharraf is different courts.
The retired general and former president was banned from leaving the country in 2013 after he returned to the country on an ill-fated mission to contest elections.
“Today lawyers of General Musharraf filed a proper application and in the light of Supreme Court decision, the government has allowed him to go abroad for medical treatment,” the interior minister, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, told a press conference.
Khan said that Musharraf’s lawyers had given guarantees that he would return to Pakistan after six weeks and that he would appear in court for ongoing cases against him.
Model Ayyan Ali was nabbed by Airport Security Force (ASF) in March last year for attempting to smuggle more than USD 500 million to United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Earlier this week, Supreme Court had annulled SHC’s verdict to remove Ayyan Ali’s name from ECL. Sindh High Court had ordered the authorities to return Ali’s passport.
