ISLAMABAD: In order to build the capacity of its member countries in the area of Cyber Security and to understand the patterns of possible Cyber-attacks, Asia Pacific Computer Emergency and Response Team (APCERT) organized an International Cyber Drill on 16th March 2016 with Thirty Two (32) teams participating in it. Pakistan Information Security Association’s Computer Emergency Response Team (PISA- CERT) in coordination with NR3C – FIA, took part in said cyber drill and achieved the leading position.
Young Information Security Professionals working in Public and Private sector organizations participated in the drill and performed knowledgeable response to stimulated Cyber attacks. This provided a fair understanding to PISA-CERT team to contain any possible Cyber attacks to the participants. Theme of this year’s Cyber Drill was “Evolving Cyber Threat and Financial Fraud”.
Throughout the exercise, the participating teams activated and tested their incident handling arrangements. This drill included the need to interact both locally and internationally, with CSIRTs/CERTs and victim organizations, for the coordinated suspension of malicious infrastructure, analysis of malicious code, as well as notification and assistance to affected entities. This incident response exercise, which was coordinated across many economies, reflects the collaboration amongst the economies and validates the enhanced communication protocols, technical capabilities and quality of incident responses that APCERT fosters in assuring Internet security and safety.
It is worth mentioning here that Pakistan Information Security Association (PISA) is trying to create the required awareness about related Cyber Security related issues and also contributing in preparation of Cyber Security law and Cyber Security Policy of Pakistan as a supporting organization of Cyber Security Task force under the auspices of Senate committee on Defense and Defense Production. Other projects of PISA include Cyber Secure Pakistan (CSP) and Child Online Protection (COP) and Cyber Warriors.
This year PISA, in coordination with PIID, is set to organize first “Internet Summit of Pakistan” from 28th March to 4th April 2016 under the theme of “Secure Internet for Sustainable Development”. All relevant stakeholders are on board and this Summit is expected to open a new avenue of discussion in Pakistan. Mr. Ammar Jaffri, President PISA, appreciates the efforts of all participating teams.
