KARACHI: The Pakistan Rangers, Sindh arrested 74 suspects including 15 activists belonging to different political parties and banned outfits and recovered huge quantity of weapons during raids in several areas of the city on Friday.
Sources in the paramilitary force told media that a crackdown was launched on information about presence of criminal elements in Purana Golimar, Lyari and Azizabad among other areas of the Sindh capital.
Five suspects were arrested in Lyari for allegedly having links with ‘gang-war’ mafia. Arms and ammunition in big quantity was recovered from their possession.
A worker of a Karachi-based political party was arrested from Khadda Market area of Lyari and taken to an undisclosed location for further interrogation while two were taken into custody from Agra Taj locality of the neighbourhood.
Rangers and police carried out joint raids in several areas of metropolis and arrested 65 criminals and terrorists including three suspected extortionists. Nine among them allegedly belonged to a banned organization.
The decision about the latest crackdown on criminals was taken at high-level security meeting chaired by DG Rangers Major General Bilal Akbar on Thursday.
