RAWALPINDI: Since launch of operation Zarb-e-Azb, around 3400 terrorists have been killed and their 837 hideouts destroyed in the North Waziristan tribal region, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported on Saturday.
DG ISPR Lt Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa stated that Pak Army has achieved phenomenal successes in Zarb-e-Azb. He said last pockets close to Pakistan-Afghanistan border are being cleared at the moment.
The army spokesperson stated that terrorists backbone has been broken as their main infrastructure has been dismantled and nexus with sleeper cells are largely disrupted. Intelligence-based operations continue to targeted the remaining, he added.
“3400 terrorists killed, 837 hideouts from where they were carrying out their terrorists activities destroyed,” he said.
During last 18 months, over 13200 intelligence-based operations (IBOs) were carried out across the country in which 183 hardcore terrorists have been killed and 21,193 arrested.
The success in Zarb-e-Azb came at a heavy price in which 488 valiant officers and security men sacrificed their lives and 1,914 sustained injuries.
Asim Bajwa said 142 cases were referred to 11 military courts, out of which, 55 cases have been decided and 87 cases are currently in process. So far, 31 hardcore terrorists have been convicted.
He said the support of entire nation for its valiant armed forces and resolve expressed against terrorism following December 16 attack on Army Public School (APS) in Peshawar had been the bedrock of operation Zarb-e-Azb.
Bajwa said that an overall improvement in security and law and order situation owing to the operation resulted in festivities, national events being celebrated and stability being achieved.
