Islamabad—Federal Minister for Finance and Economic Affairs Senator Ishaq Dar chaired a meeting on Saturday at the Finance Division to discuss various issues related to tax payer’s facilitation. The meeting deliberated upon various problems faced by the taxpayers in filing their returns and the role of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) in facilitating the taxpayers. The recommendations submitted in the Interim Report by the Tax Reforms Commission (TRC) were considered in detail with a view to simplify the processes for taxpayers.
The participants also discussed measures for improving the functioning and performance of FBR. The minister also directed to constitute a committee to oversee and expedite the ongoing reforms in FBR and to further improve taxpayers’ facilitation and broadening of the tax base. The participants also discussed framework for monitoring the reforms on an ongoing basis. The reform process will be carried out in a phased manner with resolution of important issues on priority basis. International best practices will also be considered for seeking guidance and improving the indigenous system.
The minister said that it is the objective of our government to improve the overall existing system of tax collection and to optimise tax revenues with least hassle to the taxpayers. The system must also ensure transparency and efficiency in its operations. Special Assistant to PM on Revenue Haroon Akhtar also participated the meeting along with TRC Chairman Masood Naqvi, TRC members Ashfaq Tola, Abid Shabanand and senior officials of the Ministry of Finance.
