ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday said his government believes in the freedom of the press and stressed that the electronic media must play its role in ridding the country of terrorism, sectarianism and extremism.
These comments came after the prime minister’s special advisor Irfan Siddiqui briefed the PM on the new code of conduct for the media.
The media‘s role in national development and promoting the national interest is an important one, said the prime minister. He added that serious efforts need to be invested towards implementing the new code of conduct.
