ISLAMABAD- Project Director of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Major General ® Zahir Shah has said that the work on CPEC was going on full throttle and the progress was being made undeterred and without listening to the confrontation of the project by local and foreign elements and all the conspiracies against this mega project were being very well countered.
He expressed these views while talking to a group of senior journalists from Pakistan-China Media Friendship Association, led by the Chairman of the association Makhdoom Babar who is also the President and Editor-in-Chief of The Daily Mail, the group also included a high level Chinese media delegation of China’s Yunan Daily Press Group Kunming,Yunnan Province China, comprising Mr. Wang Xufei, Director of Comments/editorial section ,Mr.Zhang Tong, Deputy Director of Photography Department, Mr. Yang Zhihui, Reporter, Mr. Zu Hongbing, Reporter and Ms.Lian Huiling Reporter of The Spring City Evening News. The delegation had arrived from China on the invitation of The Daily Mail to hold high level interviews over CPEC and One Belt-One Road.
Project Director of CPEC said that the government of Pakistan was making all its efforts to match the pace of Chinese government with regard to progress on PCEC. He said it was very important to understand that the CPEC was not something like making of a highway or motorway but it was a whole package of economic activities evolving around expansion of existing roads and bridges infrastructure, building of a high speed rail link, installing of power projects and other energy generation facilities, etc. He said it was very essential to understand the depth and economic revolution that this project was set to bring after its completion. General Zahir Shah said that the Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) was holding regular meetings and the progress on the project was being made with synchronized efforts. The decorated former 2-star General of Pakistan army who is now on the hem of affairs and is the focal person on CPEC said that it was not the matter of the investment of $46 billion on CPEC but for the government of Pakistan it was a top priority project for being a Pakistan-China joint venture and further more that the project was set to reshape the economy of the entire region. The General gave all the minute details of the project to the Chinese and Pakistani journalists and said that the government was very well aware of the security challenges that CPEC was poised to face, particularly in the backdrop of certain open confrontation of the project by some foreign countries and certain foreign intelligence agencies and that was why government had tasked Pakistan army to establish a state of the art security division for ensuring dedicated security to CPEC and army had taken the same as a sacred task.
Later, talking to The Daily Mail, the Chinese media delegation expressed their great satisfaction over the progress on CPEC . The said that after the comprehensive briefing by the Project Director, they were having a very clear view of the CPEC and many of the concerns that were in the minds of Chinese journalists about CPEC progress from Pakistan side stood well addressed after the briefing.
