ISLAMABAD: President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko was received by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at Nur Khan airbase upon his arrival in Islamabad on Thursday on a two-day state visit at the invitation of President Mamnoon Hussain.
This is the first visit by a Belarusian president to Pakistan, reports Radio Pakistan. Lukashenko was welcomed at Nur Khan airbase with a 21 gun salute.
The visiting dignitary was presented bouquets of flowers by two children in traditional garb.
President Lukashenko will hold meetings with Mamnoon Hussain and Nawaz Sharif during the course of his visit, and a number of important agreements and memorandums of understanding are expected to be signed between the two countries.
Belarus established its resident mission in Islamabad in November 2014.
The visit by the Belarusian president is a step towards strengthening existing ties between Belarus and Pakistan.
