LAHORE – The report of Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing Model Town tragedy has given a clean chit to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif and provincial and federal ministers.
According to the report obtained by Dunya, the blame has been put on former Superintendent of Police (SP) Security Muhammad Salman and ten police personnel.
It further says that no minister of advisor of federal government had anything to do with the law and order of the province and that the allegations on Prime Minister and federal ministers are baseless.
The report says that as many as two thousand to three thousand workers of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) clashed with the police personnel and both threw stones at each other and opened fire. It says that the clash resulted in loss of life and property from both sides.
As per the detailed contents of the report, SP Salman ordered to open fire after a policeman was murdered. At least 10 policemen have been named in case’s challan whereas 42 of PAT workers were named for throwing stones and petrol bombs on the police personnel.
The JIT report says that no minister or advisor of the provincial government was involved in the incident and that the allegations on provincial ministers are also baseless.
It further says that the contact of Director Inspector General (DIG) Operations Rana Abdul Jabbar with former law minister Rana Sanaullah and CM Shahbaz Sharif was not proven.
The report says Jabbar’s visiting of the crime scene at night of the incident was also not proven.
