Ironically the world powers do not seem to be serious in combating terrorism and the terrorists. They always toe the policies that suit them and their nations. The world community has been claiming fighting against al-Qaeda and now against Daesh. The moment it was claimed that al-Qaeda network has been eradicated from all over the world, the Daesh factor emerged with full force as it was waiting for some caution to fight in the areas where it has been deputed. Interestingly Daesh has airplanes, tanks and all state-of-the-art weaponry to fight against its targets. One can only guess from where this force has emerged, who has trained them, and now who is funding them to create unrest in specific regions? Ironically many of the European and western citizens are also part of Daesh. In South Asia one can say people are not so well educated and many of the less privileged classes could have inclination towards joining extremist groups but Europe does not have any madrassas, or lesser education rate too, then why many of them are inclined towards Daesh?
Disparity among the policies also raises eyebrows of many as at one side world powers are supporting Saudi Arabia in fighting against the Houtti tribe in Yemen, and on the other hand it is supporting the Daesh faction to fight against the President Al Asad-led Syrian government. More than 40 countries led Nato forces have been fighting against Afghan Taliban but there have been media reports that some factions have been supporting Pakistani Taliban to fight against Pakistan as well.
World powers are always seen worried regarding the proceedings of Mumbai attack. They even criticize Pakistani court’s decision regarding the ongoing cases. Yet they have always been mum regarding the Samjhota train incident in which Indian army was directly involved to sabotage the foreign minister level talks of both countries. Only a day before the departure for Pakistan foreign minister to Delhi Samjhota train incident occurred. Resulting killing if innocent lives of citizens of the both countries, halting the talks and maligning the Pakistan intelligence agency.
Later on Indian courts determined that Samjhota train incidents was planned and designed by Indian army and an in service Lt Col Proheet was the one who was deputed to facilitate the terrorists to attack the train. Still one can hardly see any of the news items pressurizing Indian government to arrest and punish the network involved in Samjhota express incident.
Sometimes it is felt that the world powers are not part of the solution but a part of the problem. They don’t let the underdeveloped countries to breathe in peace. Hillary Clinton bravely admitted that America supported the extremist elements during the Russian invasion in Afghanistan in order to oust it from the region. But after the success against Russian forces America left Pakistan at the mercy of extremist elements so they knotted Pakistan into a war which is being fought for the last one and a half decades. Taking benefits of the geographic and strategic conditions of the world India succeeded to use Afghan soil against Pakistan for doing terrorists and subversive activities against Pakistan. The Indian involvement in Balochistan has been unearthed by the Pakistani authorities but none of the world powers condemned India for this act.
So much so the Corps Commanders conference held recently under the Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan Army highlighted that RAW was involved in subversive activities inside Pakistan and “took serious notice of RAW’s involvement in whipping up terrorism in Pakistan”. Pakistan, its citizens and its armed forces are fighting terrorism for the last many years. Now after a more than a decade-long war Pakistan and its army have to tell the world that RAW is involved in whipping up terrorism in Pakistan. As for today none of the world powers has condemned India and its intelligence agency RAW for its involvement in instigating terrorism in Pakistan. Whereas world powers do take sides with India when it designs certain incidents to blame and malign Pakistani intelligence agencies.
Pakistan however has a resolve to combat terrorism as Gen Raheel Sharif during the recent Corps Commanders conference categorically termed that “terror-free Pakistan is now a national resolve. Thousands of innocent Pakistanis including our children have been martyred by terrorists/extremists. Law Enforcement Agencies and our brave armed forces have given lot of sacrifices in fighting these misguided and hardened criminals to safeguard a peaceful and better future for our next generation”.
He emphasized that these sacrifices will not go waste. We will take this war to its logical conclusion. Dignity and honour of our country, its people and gallant armed forces will be safeguarded at all costs, he added. He also said that “surge against terrorists and a criminal is apolitical, across-the-board and focused to achieve peace in the country”.
World has to decide once and for all if it is serious enough to eradicate terrorism from its roots, then it has to be more transparent, trustworthy and impartial with the world. Otherwise it would not be possible for the world to get itself free from the chains of extremism and the so called ‘global village’ will remain entangled in the trauma of terrorism for next many decades.
