ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Army Chief General Raheel Sharif on Friday stressed the need for enhancing capacity of civil and military intelligence agencies at the national level for achieving optimum effects in combating terrorism.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) expressed these views while visiting headquarters of Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI), said DG ISPR Major General Asim Bajwa on Twitter.
Gen Raheel appreciated Pakistan’s top spy agency for pre-empting numerous terror acts in the last few months, said Bajwa. The COAS also emphasised on enhancing capacity of the intelligence agency to further prevent such acts from happening in the future, he added.
The Army chief directed the ISI officials to focus on synergising the ongoing operations as well as enhancing capacity of civil-military intelligence agencies for best results.
DG ISI, Lt-Gen Rizwan Akhtar briefed the COAS about internal and external security situation of the country and counter-terrorism operations.
The Army chief further said that most of the achievements and successes of intelligence agencies go unnoticed but their accomplishments for the defence of the country were phenomenal which deserve due recognition and acknowledgment.
COAS emphasised the need for more proactive and coordinated role of intelligence agencies for an effective counter-terrorism campaign and to counter “hostile agencies’ moves to destabilise Pakistan”.
