ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Saturday directed Secretary Interior and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Ghulam Haider Jamali to provide adequate security to former NA Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza and her family.
Sadiq issued the directives in response to a letter written to him by the former NA speaker.
In a letter to the Home Secretary and IGP Sindh, the NA speaker instructed Secretary Interior and IGP Sindh to make proper arrangements for the security of Fehmida and her family.
The speaker also said that they should submit a report in this regard.
He further said, “as the custodian of the House, it is my responsibility to make necessary arrangements for the security of all members whether he or she belongs to a political party or not.”
In a letter addressed to Sadiq, Dr Fehmida had said that she and her family were concerned for their security and being the custodian of the House, it is the speaker’s responsibility to ensure the security of all members of the National Assembly.
Fehmida has demanded provision of security for herself and her husband who in recent times has issued fiery statements against former president Asif Ali Zardari and his sister Faryal Talpur.
