PESHAWAR–The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) suspended three Returning Officers in Khyber Pakthunkhwa for negligence of duties regarding municipal elections.
According to information obtained from the ECP, the ROs were not taking their duties seriously. If they were asked by candidates for certain documents in writing, they were not pursuing the matter. They also did not cooperate with the ECP due to which, they said, hurdles were created in the electoral process.
The RO’s are associated with Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) and Sui Gas Nowshera. Two are PESCO Executive Engineers from Nowshera Kallan and Nowshera Cantonment, while one is an Executive Engineer from Sui Gas Nowshera.
In line with Article 220 and 224 of the constitution, a show cause notice has been issued against them, and they have been summoned before the ECP on April 30.
In addition to suspending them, the ECP also recommended disciplinary action and a departmental enquiry be conducted.
The 2018 Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) annual conference is scheduled for April 8 to 11 in Boao, Hainan Province. The forum will be themed "An Open and Innovative Asia for a World of Greater Prosperity."
