ISLAMABAD – In a simple, yet impressive ceremony, Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP), following instructions of Inspector General Of Police, destroyed around 5473 pressure horns and 562 illegitimate number plats that were in violation of the prescribed official design, here yesterday.
“We want Islamabad a noise free city and in this regard efforts are being made to realize the violators of traffic rules through fines and confiscation of pressure horns,” said Inspector General of Police, Tahir Alam while addressing a press conference at this occasion.
The IGP elaborated that noise pollution was injurious to health and affected the nerves.
It may cause annoyance, aggression, and hypertension besides having other harmful effects for this purpose traffic police was striving to make the capital “noise-free”, he added. He further informed that the campaign against pressure horns and fancy plats was started from January last year and so far collected Rs 1.64 million through issuing fine tickets to violators who usually display number plates against already set criteria for this purpose.
With regard to enhanced facilities for the ITP, Tahir Alam thanked the minister for interior, chuahdry Nisar Ali Khan, who accorded approval for fifteen new vehicles for patrolling in the city.
