ISLAMABAD: Minister for States and Frontier Regions Lt General (r) Abdul Qadir Baloch Thursday said the ongoing operation of repatriating Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to their respective areas would be completed by December 2016.
Concluding the debate on “Problems Being Faced by IDP’s” in the National Assembly, he said Rs 81 billion were needed to complete the repatriation operation.
Out of which, he said Rs 50 billion would be paid to the IDP families. Rs 25,000 per family for rehabilitation and Rs 10,000 would be paid to each displaced family as transport charges. The families would be given six month ration in collaboration with World Food Programme (WFP).
He said Rs 30 billion would be spent on reconstruction and rehabilitating the destroyed health, education and other basic facilities in FATA.
The Government would rehabilitate schools, health facilities and other facilities in FATA within a period of 18 months.
A total of Rs 2.8 million people belonging to seven agencies had to leave their homes due to military operation against militants. Out of which 900,000 have so far been repatriated. While 1.8 million IDPs would be repatriated by December 2016.
He said IDPs belonging to South Waziristan Agency (NWA) would be repatriated to their homes from March 16. The return of IDPs from North Waziristan Agency would be started from March 31.
The repatriation of Barra and Khyber Agency would be started from March 20.
He said 11,000 families belonging to South Waziristan Agency (NWA) have already returned to their respective areas. And 36,000 would be returned by the end of current year.
The operation to repatriate the displaced persons of North Waziristan Agency (NWA) was started in June last. One million people were depopulated within a week.
He said the dream of achieving lasting peace in the country is impossible without restoring complete peace and tranquility in the country.
He said the Government is determined to restore peace and tranquility in the country which is impossible without rehabilitating Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
Lauding the sacrifices of IDPs he said the government could not compensate even their one percent miseries. Peace would be restored in the country at all costs. “There is no question of coming back from the peace endeavors.”
Proscribed organizations have destroyed the peace of the country, he said.
