LAHORE–A splinter group of the Pakistani Taliban Sunday claimed responsibility for the twin bomb attack on a church in Lahore.
Police and hospital sources said that 15 people were confirmed dead and over 80 injured in the attacks.
The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan Jammat-ul-Ahrar said it has carried out the attacks in response to operations by the security forces.
“We claim responsibility for the attacks,” the TTP JA spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan told the media by the phone.
“We have reached Lahore, the center of Punjab province, which is a challenge and a warning to the rulers,” Ehsan said.
The TTP JA parted ways with the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan last year over serious differences. The group however merged into the TTP few days ago.
