QUETTA–Two levies personnel were killed in two separate incidents of targeted killings in the Killa Abdullah and Ziarat districts of Balochistan on Tuesday.
Levies sources told media that armed militants opened fire at levies personnel in the Maizai Addah area of Killa Abdullah district. Two armed riders opened fire at the security official who was returning home after duty, a Levies official said.
The assailants fled on their motorcycle after the attack.
On hearing news of the attack, Levies personnel rushed to the spot and shifted the dead body to basic health unit Maizai Addah for postmortem.
In a separate incident, armed militants opened fire in the Sanjavi area of Ziarat district, killing a Levies Hawaldar identified as Amanullah. The attackers managed to escape unhurt from the spot. The incident appeared to be an act of target killing, a Levies official said.
There has been no claim of responsibility for the two attacks.
The northern parts of Balochistan bordering Afghanistan have been under the grip of violence since the launch of a crack-down against militants in the aftermath of the devastating Army Public School Peshawar attack on December 16, 2014.
In retaliation to security forces’ search operations and arrests, militant outfits have been attacking security forces and kidnapping officials from Zhob and other areas of northern Balochistan.
