LAHORE–Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif has said that the operational preparations are to maintain peace not to wage a war.
Addressing a ceremony in Lahore on Monday to commemorate infantry Division’s raising 100 years ago during World War-1, the Army Chief has called upon the international community to show urgency in resolving long-standing international disputes.
According to Director General (DG) Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asim Saleem Bajwa, General Raheel Sharif speaking to the troops about World War I, highlighted the need for a sound defence strategy in today’s world.
General Raheel shed a light on the significance of achieving peace through conflict resolution, the lack of which led to the disastrous World War 100 years ago.
The Army chief paid tribute to the soldiers who fought and sacrificed their lives during the war and underlined the need of establishing a robust mechanism for resolving conflicts because it was the absence of such a structure that had led to the destructive war.
He further added that the outbreak of First World War was caused by difference on core issues. He implored to the international community to work out their differences on such issues and take steps to remedy the situation.
He underscored the need for robust conflict resolution mechanism the absence of which led to devastating war 100 years ago. He highlighted importance of deterrence and need for operational preparedness for war and peace.
