ISLAMABAD–Rains-related incidents have killed nearly 24 people in Pakistan over the past two days, officials said on Tuesday.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Azad Kashmir have received heavy rains and the metrological department has predicted more rains and snowfall in two days. Most of the people died due to collapse of buildings.
Seven persons of a family died when their house collapsed at Want Cant, a city some 48 kilometers from Islamabad late Monday, police and hospital sources said. The house was built near a nullah.
Four security men from the Frontier Constabulary were killed and three injured when a roof of their check post collapsed in the outskirts of Peshawar Monday evening. Three security men were also injured. The check post was established in a rented house, police said.
Two persons were killed when the roof of their house caved-in in Lahore while a minor girl was killed in another roof collapse incident in Gujranwala.
Five more people were killed and several others injured in separate incidents of roof collapse in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Those killed included two women and a kid of the same family who were sleeping inside their house in Karak district when roof of their house collapsed due to heavy downpour, local officials said.
Separately in provincial capital of Peshawar, two people were killed when their house caved in. Two children and a woman were killed and two others injured in Mohmand tribal region a roof collapse incidents.
The Pakistan Metrological Department says that western disturbance prevailing over upper parts of the country may continue for next 24 hours.
A statement on the Department’s website says more rains, with snowfall over the hills, is expected at scattered places of Islamabad, Upper Punjab, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan-administered Kashmir and northern areas of Gilgit-Baltistan. Isolated heavy fall is expected in Islamabad and Rawalpindi city.
