BRUSSELS–Kashmir Council EU has said that it would commemorate two Kashmiri leaders late Maqbool Bhat and late Afzal Guru in Brussels on Monday, February 09, 2015. “Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC) and across the world observe the anniversary of prominent Kashmiri leader, Muhammad Maqbool Bhat every year on Feb 11. Muhammad Maqbool Bhat was hanged in Tihar Jail of New Delhi on the 11th of
February 1984 for his role in the Kashmir’s on-going struggle. He was buried in the premises of the prison. Muhammad Afzal Guru was second Kashmiri who was hanged and buried at the same Tihar prison by the Indian Authorities on Feb 9, 2013. Hanging of the Kashmiri youth Afzal Guru had also evoked widespread condemnation by human rights organisations,” statement said. Paying tribute to Bhat and Guru, Kashmir Council EU chairman Ali Raza Syed has urged the Kashmiris to observe the anniversaries of both leaders. Statement said that Syed asked Indian government to hand over the remains of Afzal Guru and Maqbool Bhat to their families in Kashmir for their proper funeral and decent burial. In his statement from Brussels, Syed said, “India acted inhumanely by holding bodies of the two leaders in jail. No human being and no one of the civilised societies in the world accept such ruthless behaviour as India is doing with the Kashmiris.” Syed in his statement said that Indian cannot stop the peaceful movement of the Kashmiris who are struggling for the rights of self-determination accepted under UN Security Council’s resolutions and as well as promised by the Indian authorities.
