ISLAMABAD–Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Monday said that the interim government assisted the Returning Officers (ROs) in rigging in the General Elections 2013.
He threw three questions at the government. 1- How stranger [Ayaz Sadiq] ran the House who was elected through rigging? 2- When judicial commission will sit and finds PML-N rigging practice. What will be the fate of government and its decisions it took during two years ? 3- Whether presiding officers and returning officers in polls 2013 didn’t know that people’s mandate was being snatched. Who was behind them?
Khan said that the ROs would tell the court if asked that who were the people behind rigging in the General Elections 2013. The interim government assisted the ROs in rigging. The report of the commission proves that rigging was done, he added. PTI chairman said that the investigations of the judicial commission would tell the people of the country that the government in power does not have the mandate. Who would catch the culprits who come in power through rigging? Khan asked.
“Why is PML-N scared of setting up a judicial commission if it is not involved in the rigging,” he questioned. “Nobody should have any fears of our proposal for setting up a commission to probe the last general elections.”
He said there was no use of introducing electoral reforms without accountability of the last election.
He said that the votes of the constituency NA-124 were put in the constituency NA-122. Not one, not two constituencies but every constituency that is being opened to investigations is exposing the bogus government.
Khan said that he would announce the next strategy on January 18.
“We are organizing ‘Dharna convention’ on January 18 and next line of action will be announced in it. We supported government on measures against terrorism and we didn’t block any national move but we are now compelled to decide next course of action due to government’s repeated cold shoulder to PTI demands,” he added.
However, he expressed a resolve to not hinder the process of counter-terrorism in the country. There is no purpose of holding elections in the present situation, he added.
Imran Khan said that he would hold another press conference to explain submission of electricity bills of his Bani Gala residence after announcing civil disobedience earlier during PTI’s sit-in.
While answering a question, PTI vice chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that the PTI’s negotiations team has shown maximum flexibility with the government side and they could not show more flexibility in the matter.
Federal Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid Monday dismissed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan’s claim of fraud in NA-122, Lahore and offered forensic audit of the votes.
Speaking to media persons outside the Parliament House, Rashid accused Imran Khan of misleading the nation on the issue of rigging in the last elections.
The Information Minister said that if the inquiry report by the commission has used the word ‘bogus’ then he would himself demand Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq to submit his resignation.
He urged the PTI chairman to start speaking the truth now. He said that he would tell Khan exactly what is written in the report. Rasheed said that if Khan does not want to read the documents himself then he could ask PTI vice chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi to read it to him.
“When will Imran Khan start telling the truth to nation? He has been misleading the nation for the past six months,” he said.
“I am going to make a big offer to Imran Khan today,” he said, adding that he would himself take resignation from Ayaz Sadiq if word ‘bogus’ was found in the commission’s report.
He urged Khan to conduct forensic tests of Sadiq’s votes, if he finds them fake then he wins. PTI secretary general Jahangir Tareen’s as many as 400 votes were reduced after his constituency was opened to investigations. He said that PTI candidates from the constituency of Khawaja Asif did not go to the tribunal and paid fine for their disobedience.
Rasheed said that if Tareen would hire a reliable lawyer then it obviously would cost him at least Rs 2 crore. Hamid Khan took more than 10 hearings in the constituency of Saad Rafique, he added. The minister said that PTI chairman is playing a role of a strategic partner of terrorists. PTI wanted to shut down Pakistan on December 16 2014 and the brutal Army Public School attack in Peshawar also happened on December 16 2014.
“Imarn Khan is a strategic partner of terrorists. Whenever government acts against terrorists, Imran starts agitation,” he alleged.
