ISLAMABAD–Graduation Ceremony for National Security Course 2014-15 was conducted at National Defence University, Islamabad on 9 Jan 2015. Mr. Mamnoon Hussain, President Islamic Republic of Pakistan graced the occasion as Chief Guest of the prestigious ceremony.
Graduation Ceremony marked the culmination of the 22-weeks long ‘National Security Course’ which commenced on 11 Aug 2014. The course comprised of 24 selected participants from Civil Services of Pakistan and 2 officers from Army Medical Corps.
Main focus of the National Security Course was to comprehend the interplay of all elements of national power in the construction of ‘Comprehensive National Security’; whereby, emphasizing Pakistan’s current threat spectrum warrants a comprehensive national response through a ‘Whole of Government’ approach.
Chief Guest congratulated the graduates on their achievement and asked these future leaders to handle intricate and complex professional matters concerning National Security to compliment the national response against the threat and challenges faced by the country.
Mr. Mamnoon Hussain also appreciated the tremendous contributions in refining and defining national security concepts of the participants and enabling civilian policy makers to acquire a better understanding of issues concerning national security.
He stressed that there has been a paradigm shift not simply from state centric focus to societal concerns but also in the concept, meaning and understanding of national security. He said that Pakistan’s geo-strategic location and events in the region have a direct impact on our domestic situation as well as our international standing.
President said that it is time for us to take control of the situation, work together as a team and ensure that our national interests take primacy. The state is fully conscious of the challenging tasks ahead as we tackle both internal and external problems. For a developing country like ours, the task of the decision makers is not easy. On one hand, we have a resource constraint while on the other, we have pressing security and developmental issues which need to be addressed accordingly. It is neither possible nor desirable to ignore either.
Towards the end, he commended the endless efforts of Armed Forces for its role in Zarb-e-Azb and reiterated the great part of National Defence University in grooming the future leadership of Armed Forces and the country.
