RAWALPINDI – The President Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) Syed Asad Mashadi expressing concern over higher fares for Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah, argued that after reduction in the fuel prices, the air fares should be reduced accordingly.
Talking to Umrah tour operators in a meeting at the Chamber, he said that government issued directions to all public transporters to reduce fares to provide relief to masses but when it comes to Umrah pilgrims; state run Airline increased its fares contrarily.
He was of the view that private airlines should be allowed to operate on this sector for creating healthy competition to facilitate the masses.
Senior Vice President Mian Humayun Parvez, Fiaz Qureshi, Bilal Maqbool and other members of the Chamber were also present on the occasion.
Asad Mashadi said that in month of Rabi ul Awal, majority of Muslims wish to travel to Makkah and Madina and during this peak season unavailability of seats in national airlines is beyond comprehension and it is also observed that planes are almost empty during flights to Saudi Arabia. He feared that such a scenario was not possible without the involvement of PIA staff.
