ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will convene a high-level meeting on Tuesday to discuss steps to be taken on internal security, including the National Action Plan on counter-terrorism.
The army chief General Raheel Sharif will also be in attendance. According to an official statement, DG ISI General Rizwan Akhtar, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar and all others concerned will also attend the meeting.
Interestingly, Tuesday is also the deadline for all 15 sub-committees on the National Action Plan to submit their recommendations as well as the road maps of the implementation to the premier as well.
Sources said the prime minister, on Tuesday, might also direct the concerned authorities to carry out the roadmap of implementation within a fixed time period.
Nawaz, Shahbaz discuss counter-terrorism for Punjab
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Lahore on Sunday to discuss the counter-terrorism strategy and its implementation in Punjab.
In a meeting at Jati Umra, Raiwind, the Punjab chief minster briefed the premier on decisions taken by the provincial committee, which the chief minister is heading himself, to implement the National Action Plan.
The committee comprises corps commander Lahore, inspector general Punjab police, home secretary, among others.
Sources said that Shahbaz had sought draft legislation from the law department to address every angle of extremism, terrorism and fundamentalism from the province. The legislation, once finalised, will be presented in the Punjab assembly for ratification.
