The party has a notorious history of acrimony towards Indian Muslims and the people of Kashmir.
During ring BJP’s government in Ayodhya back in 1992, World witnessed the tragic incident of demolition of Babri Mosque with agony and pain. The dreadful event triggered a venomous wave of anti Muslim sentiments in the whole country claiming thousands of lives.
Similarly, the Muslim genocide in Indian Gujrat once again left the international community startled, shocked and anguished. This time BJP
has focused on IOK, an international issue always inviting criticism on pseudo democratic India.
The head of Aam Admi Party (AAP) and former Chief Minister of Delhi declared in 2013, “In India 23,500 anti Muslim riots had taken place since partition.
Likewise nearly 35,000 anti minorities’ riots had occurred
in India. Facts and incidents show that secularism exists in India
in theory but not in practice,” say the analysts.
India is once again conducting illegitimate elections
for State Assembly of J&K. Elections are democratic instrument
to gauge people’s aspirations, but unfortunately, in case of J&K,
the stake holders have boycotted the said elections terming them
as fake, engineered and enforced to subjugate self determination
right of the Kashmiri people. They term the elections as a BJP’s
malicious agenda to substitute the UN-pledged plebiscite. What
a democracy in which main representatives are not included? . It is
a fact that the elections under the Indian constitution in the
region were every time held under bayonets with ill-will and
ill-design to tighten the military grip of India over the part
of occupied territory.
According to a BBC News Report dated September 14,
2002, Indian- administered Jammu and Kashmir has had a chequered
history of elections reflecting the troubled politics of the state
since its accession to India in 1947.
India always forcefully resisted to grant the
right of self-determination or basic democratic freedoms to
the Kashmiris’ by imposing fraudulent assemblies on them, since
1951, to make tyrannical laws against the people of Kashmir.
Thus, the history of Parliamentary and state assembly
elections was repository of hypocrisy and treachery in Kashmir
since 1950s. Nevertheless, BJP’s overwhelming interest in J&K,
madness to hold elections without having waited to mitigate
the sufferings of fled ridden people and RSS dictated election strategy
need no elucidation to unveil hegemonic and anti Muslim agenda of
BJP. B.K. Nehru, ex Governor of Kashmir from 1981 to 1984, in
his memoirs published in 1997 narrates “From 1953 to 1975,
Chief Ministers of that State (of J&K) had been nominees of Delhi.
Their appointment to that post was legitimized by holding of farcical
and totally rigged elections in which the Congress party led by Delhi’s nominee was elected by huge majorities”.
This time it is not Congress, rather RSS backed BJP is at the
helm of affairs. Their ambitious dream of sweeping in J&K motivated
by the hangover of victory in Lok Sabha elections clearly point
towards an even tougher future of Kashmiri people.
The Modi government has a cunning strategy on Kashmir. This
relates to its handling of Pakistan, the Hurriyat and Jammu &
Kashmir (J&K) itself. And those calling the shots are
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and National Security Advisor
(NSA) Ajit Doval.
BJP has a carefully chalked-out strategy for IOK. The latest
move to corner Kashmir’s leaders is a precursor to
crucial assembly elections in J&K.
Assembly elections would be portrayed as giving right
of democracy/self determination to populace of IOK, a substitute
to UN resolutions. If Modi and the BJP manage to establish themselves
in the sensitive border state, they would be in a position to claim
to be all inclusive and pan Indian in the real sense of the term.
Election results tilting in favour of BJP would afford BJP
a major opportunity to loosen the stranglehold of
dominant pro-Hurriyat Valley players, the Abdullahs of
the National Conference (NC) and the Muftis of the People’s
Democratic Party (PDP) and shift the centre of gravity of
state politics. This will covertly promote independents
or smaller, non-NC/non-PDP parties such as Lone’s, in the hope that
the new Assembly will have a substantial cluster of
uncommitted MLAs it can bank on to keep the NC and the PDP out
Another fallout of BJP’s Victory will be to clear the
obstacles in the path of dismantling of Article 370, a leap
forward towards “complete integration” of the state. By winning seats
or a fair amount of votes would give BJP the authority to talk
to the government of India and JK. If BJP wins a majority in
the assembly,it would be better placed to decide the fate and
destiny of Kashmiris as per aspirations of RSS as the
legitimate authority in the state. Moreover, Victory of BJP or even
a good performance in the Assembly polls will help Modi to pass a
major test he needs as Indian PM, RSS ideologue and BJP’s
supreme leader in order to be accepted as an undisputed,
all-inclusive and perhaps even an unparalleled national leader,
more than any other Indian leader in history.
After victory in Lok Sabha elections, a repeat performance
in J&K elections would give BJP a majority in J&K assembly for
the first time with Hindu vote banks that support the Hindutva
forces in India. Even if BJP does not come out with majority, the
BJP can easily create a situation where no government can be
formed without it.
It is also a fact that by its secret national policy, shared
by core Hindu members, the Congress party wants the BJP to come to
power in the Muslim majority kashmirto make a Hindu as its
chief minister. That would be a historic victory for both India as
well as the Hindus.
If BJP wins, it would have a completely different
connotation, both nationally andinternationally, and
more specially vis-a-vis Pakistan. If the BJP emerges as a force
in the state at the expense of Congress, Modi would
progressively move towards his target of a Congress-Mukt Bharat in
which the saffron party becomes the dominant pole of Indian
politics much like Congress has been in the past for over a century.
A Muslim majority Kashmir ruled by a rightist anti-Muslim force
will add more loathing and venom in India Pakistan foreign policy.
These all goodies resulting from illegitimate J&K Assembly
elections are attractive enough to rig the sham polls in favour
