ISLAMABAD – Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has decided to link its Central Library which is open for general public, with modernized and automation system.
The University will provide best library facilities to the readers through online automatic digital system, this was stated by the vice chancellor Dr. Shahid Siddiqui while presiding over a meeting held here to discuss ways means to upgrade the library facilities.
Timing of the library has been extended forthwith, and the now it will remain open from 8.30 am to 6.30 pm on all working days, including Saturday. During the summer, the library will remain open till 8 pm.
The books’data of the library will be made operational through advanced software system. There will be also automatic system for circulation of books among the readers. Radio frequency identification system will be introduced for the safety of the books.
Dr. Shahid Siddiqui said the AIOU library is first-ever in the country which has scanned around 4,000 theses of PhD, M.Phil, Ms and Masters’ level and made available to the students with full text, through online digital system. The students across the country could benefit from these theses, by visiting the University’s website.
It was decided to further expand the space of the library, to accommodate maxim number of readers. Arrangements were also reviewed at the meeting to provide most friendly environment to the readers.
The AIOU will hold training on new software computer date for its library’s staff on Dec. 23-24.
Since the total program of the Open University is unique in its features, the library offers resources and services. It supports the preparation of courses and the pursuit of research through its resources and services and provides an in-house audio-visual aids and equipment services.
