GUANGZHOU (China): COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) Pakistan and South China University of Technology (SCUT), Guangzhou, China, have signed an Agreement on Academic, Educational, Scientific, Technological, and Student Exchange Cooperation. The National Testing Service (NTS), a non-profit company and a facet of CIIT’s expansion, also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the SCUT. Agreements were facilitated by the Consulate General of Pakistan in Guangzhou.
The Academic and Scientific Cooperation Agreement provides for Exchange of Faculty, Scholars, Students, Academic Information and Materials to enhance mutual cooperation for the benefit of the two institutions. The Universities will conduct joint production and delivery of courses, sharing of scientific knowledge and joint Research and Development. They would also exchange scholarships information in each other’s institution, facilitating their students to benefit from them.
The MoU with the National Testing Service (NTS) will allow it to conduct entry test of Pakistani students who wish to enroll at SCUT in various programmes as well as those applying for scholarships.
The Agreement and MoU were signed by Dr. Haroon Rashid, Pro-Rector of the CIIT and Vice President of SCUT, Professor Zhu Min. Consul General Babar Amin, Dean CIIT Dr. Qaisar Abbas and Vice Consul Hasan Akhtar were also present.
Speaking on the occasion Vice President Zhu thanked the Consul General for his consistent efforts to enhance educational cooperation between SCUT and Pakistani Universities. He informed that SCUT had two campuses with 25,000 undergraduate and 18,000 postgraduate students. He stated that SCUT is the number one University in Engineering and Technology in South China and among the top 500 globally. It hosted 13 national level and 18 provincial level centers of Excellence and Scientific and Research laboratories.
Mr. Zhu appreciated the high academic standard maintained by Pakistani students at the SCUT, mentioning one student in particular for being the most outstanding and having publication of papers in internal science journals.
Pro-Rector Dr. Haroon Rashid briefed about the seven campuses of CIIT and the high academic standard which made it the second best University of Pakistan in a short time. He informed that besides the University entrance exam the NTS does employment tests for Government, international agencies, local and multi-national corporations.
Consul General Amin thanked the SCUT for its supportive admission policy for Pakistani students including generous grant of scholarships. Mr. Zhu responded that SCUT would look into ways to give even more scholarships to the deserving Pakistani students from the quotas of the University, Provincial and Central governments.
Enhancement of educational cooperation between Pakistani and Chinese academic institutions and Universities has been one of the top priorities of the Consulate General of Pakistan, Guangzhou. During the last one year, the Consulate General has facilitated signing of academic agreements between National University of Modern Languages (NUML), Pakistan, and Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS); the University of Animal and Veterinary Sciences, Lahore and Pearl River Fisheries Research Institute; University of Agriculture, Faisalabad and Guangdong Institute of Energy Conversion, China Academy of Sciences; and University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore and Institution of Energy Conversion, Academy of Sciences.
