ISLAMABAD: Recently concluded London Conference on Afghanistan will play vital role in development and reconstruction of Afghanistan that will ensure peace, security and stability in the region. This was stated by the British High Commissioner, Philip Barton and Ambassador of Afghanistan, Janan Mosazai at a joint briefing here on Monday at Afghan embassy.
They said the London Conference on Afghanistan co-hosted by the British and Afghan Governments last week which was also attended by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was a very successful event that would be helpful in resolving the problems of Afghanistan.
This post-conference briefing was attended by leading parliamentarians, politicians and academics as well as representatives from the local media.
During their briefing, the British High Commissioner and the Afghan Ambassador discussed the importance of the London Conference on Afghanistan for Pakistan and the wider region.
Speaking at the occasion, the British High Commissioner Philip Barton said, “The conference provided the first opportunity for the
international community and the new Afghan Government to set out our
collective commitments to Afghanistan’s future as we enter the

He said the United Kingdom would continue to support
Afghanistan and Pakistan as they worked together to enhance regional
stability and prosperity.
Speaking at the occasion, the Ambassador of Afghanistan Janan
Mosazai reiterated the thanks and appreciation of the government and
people of Afghanistan to the government and people of the United
Kingdom for demonstrating unparalleled leadership on the global
stage for offering significant support and sacrifices for peace and
prosperity in Afghanistan over the past 13 years and helping
mobilize support and assistance from the rest of the international

and further consolidating the international community’s consensus on
long-term support to Afghanistan during the Transformation Decade of

The Afghan ambassador said the process of consensus at
domestic level through peaceful transformation of government
following the elections, consensus with neighbours and international
community would be helpful in improving the relations of Afghanistan
with in the region and with international community.
He said terrorism and extremism were common enemies of Pakistan
and Afghanistan and both the countries were cooperating in all the
fields including security to fight this menace.
The Afghan Ambassador said his government had announced that
it was ready to negotiate with all those Taliban who were ready for
talks but handle with strict action against those who would adopt the
way of extremism and terrorism.
He was of the view that renewed relationship between Pakistan
and Afghanistan would help in improving the situation in the region.
He said Afghanistan had laid down the foundation for lasting peace
in the region.
