Munawar Hassan elected as new JI Amir
Bureau Report

LAHORE—Syed Munawar Hassan has been elected the fourth Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Amir for next five years.
Syed Munawar Hassan has replaced Qazi Hussain Ahmed as fourth JI Amir after securing majority votes out of 23,480 votes from all four provinces of the county. The oath taking ceremony will be held in upcoming month and its date would be announced later. It may be mentioned here that Qazi Hussain Ahmed had declined to become JI Amir for the fifth time after which Majlis-e-Shura approved three names, Syed Munawar Hassan, Siraj-ul-Haq and Liaqat Baloch.
The founder of Jammat-e-Islami Syed Abul A’ala Maududi was elected as first Amir in 1941 and he remained Amir till 1972 but on the same year Maududi refused to take part in JI elections because of his poor health.
