Tension high after Hindu, Muslim clash in Indian state

UJJAIN—Clash between Hindus and Muslims erupted on the occasion of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi in Mahidpur area of Ujjain district in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday, March 10. Resultantly, one person was killed and nearly 40 people were injured, which also included three police officers. Since the situation was getting out of control and more violence was expected so indefinite curfew was imposed in parts of Ujjain district on Wednesday. Additional security forces personnel have been deployed but situation is still tense. Muslims have demanded inquiry into the incident and have threatened to lodge street protests if action is not take against the culprits.
Meanwhile, as usual the Indian police and Hindus have blamed the Muslims for tense situation and violence. According to Inspector General of Police Pawan jain, the unrest erupted when the police stopped some Muslims returning from a Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi procession from going to a place where Hindus were holding a religious function. Some of those stopped stoned the police, who used batons and tear gas to disperse them. On the other hand, the Muslims claim that the Indian police and Hindus have intentionally tried to instigate Muslims by allowing Hindus to gather on their route. They said that majority of those injured are Muslims.
