Special programmes being prepared to observe Benazir’s anniversary

ISLAMABAD—Pakistan Television has prepared special programmes to
commemorate the first death anniversary of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto on
December 27.
PTV and its all regional centres have planned to observe a Benazir Week
from December 21 to 27 in connection with the Day and to highlight
Shaheed Mohtarma's political vision and ideas.
An official at PTV said that songs, mushairay, cultural programmes,
essay writing competition, quiz programme and views of women leaders
would be part of Benazir Week.
Giving details about the arrangements, the official said onDecember 27,
PTV has arranged a special marathon transmission from 7.00 a.m till
midnight. Public views would also be taken through live calls, e-mails
and SMS during the transmission.
He said PTV's Islamabad Centre has prepared a programme - Eikthee
Shahzadi - in which BB's student life and her efforts for the rights of
students would be presented in a story form.
Lahore Centre of PTV has arranged programmes - Salam Benazir, and
Benazir Naghme.
A programme - Kahan Hoi Tum Sahelio is prepared by Karachi Centre while
this centre would also hold a multi-lin gual Mushaira in coordination
with Radio Pakistan which would be participated by poets from different
parts of the country.
The official said PTV would not observe the anniversary in a traditional
way but would commemorate it by arranging special cultural programmes
for the women, children and the youth.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has initiated a month-long
programme to commemorate Benazir Bhutto's
death anniversary. Public holiday on December 27 has already been
announced. The commemoration activities include a series of seminars,
conventions and public meetings. A commemorative postal stamp and a coin
is also being issued to pay tribute to the party's late chairperson.
Paying tribute to the great Shaheed leader, the official said in the
footsteps of her father Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, she laid down her life for
the cause of democracy and to improve the lot of thedeprived. |
