Escalating tension could be disastrous:
President
LONDON—President Asif Ali Zardari in a
interview with the leading British daily
“The Financial Times” has warned against
escalating tensions between Pakistan and
India and said any confrontation would be
disastrous for the war on terror as this
would sap his nation’s effort against
militants on its Afghan border. “The
architects of this calamity in Mumbai have
managed to raise a threat on our other
(eastern) border. As we have these people
(militants) on the run along our western
border (with Afghanistan), our attention is
being diverted at this critical time,” said

India seeks strong action against terror
‘elements’
NEW DELHI—Shahid Malik, Pakistan High
Commissioner was called by the Indian
Ministry of External Affairs here this
evening and alleged that the recent
terrorist attack on Mumbai was carried out
by “elements” from Pakistan. A press release
issued by the Ministry said India expected
that strong action would be taken against
those elements, whosoever they may be,
responsible for this outrage. It was further
conveyed to him that Pakistan’s actions
needed to match the sentiments expressed by
its leadership that it wishes to have a
qualitatively new relationship with India.

Pakistan not involved in Mumbai carnage: US
WASHINGTON—The White House on Monday said
the investigation into the India attacks was
continuing but it had heard nothing to
suggest that Pakistan’s government was
involved. “I’ve heard nothing that says that
the Pakistani government was involved,”
White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said.
She said Pakistani officials have pledged to
work with the Indian government to find out
who was behind the attack. “We have been
encouraged by the statements by the
Pakistanis that they are committed to
