Govt expounds FATA strategy in joint session

ISLAMABAD—The joint sitting of Parliament’s in-camera session on Tuesday yet again failed to make any headway and was adjourned till Wednesday at 11:00am amidst PML-N’s protest. Earlier, Federal Information Minister Sherry Rehman in her briefing to the parliamentarians told that government has devised a three pronged strategy for FATA which include dialogue, economic and social development and military operation which would be exercised as the last resort, sources told. Meanwhile, The PML-N members rejecting the briefing given by the Federal Minister said that there was noting new in her briefing and it is just the repetition of old things...

Ulema term suicide bombings un-Islamic

LAHORE—A conference of Islamic clerics from across Pakistan on Tuesday issued a fatwa declaring suicide bombings as “un-Islamic”. The edict issued unanimously by the Muttahida Ulema Council during a meeting at the Jamia Naeemia here is significant as it came in the wake of devastating suicide bomb attacks in the country that have claimed hundreds of lives. While declaring suicide attacks as un-Islamic, the members of the Muttahida Ulema Council called on the government to prevent such attacks. The clerics also said the government should stop operations in Pakistan’s tribal areas and conduct negotiations with people there to end militancy, TV channels reported...
