India promises not to block Chenab water

NEW DELH—India will not block Chenab River water to Pakistan, Indian National Security Advisor MK Narayanan said in an interview aired on Sunday. Talking to Indian news channel, he said Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari held ‘a very good’ meeting in New York last month. He said the Indian prime minister was clear on the matter that India would not block Chenab water. Narayanan said India wants to carry forward the peace process and does not want it to derail. President set off for landmark China visit

BEIJING—President Asif Ali Zardari will arrive here Tuesday on his first state visit abroad, at the invitation of Chinese President Hu Jintao. The President’s four-day visit will focus on further strengthening the relationship of trust and friendship between the two countries and enhancing mutually beneficial cooperation in the areas of common interest, diplomatic sources said. 30 militants killed in fierce fighting
Bureau Report

BAJAUR—At least 30 militants were killed and 15 other arrested during fresh gunship attack and search operation in different areas of Bajaur, Swat and Darra Adam Khail. Earlier, gunship copters continued pounding at militants’ hideouts in Charmang area on Monday killing ten more militants. The militants had also killed two local members of “Lashkar” after kidnapping them, private TV Channel reported. Security Forces also carried out heavy shelling by gunship copters at militants hideouts in Loi Sim and Rashki area of Swat. As a result five militants were killed and several other wounded.
