Danger Zone rests venomous bite on Dynamic Duo this time
Uzma Zafar

PSI

Danger Zone threatened to gulp down Sohaib Hassan, Muhammad Afzal, Haroon Shahid and Sunny & Vicky but in the end, this Saturday was just not the day for the Dynamic Duo and they were eliminated amidst all so teary audience. However, where Sunny promised to grab a national award very soon, there Vicky quoted Hazrat Ali saying that he would’ve been glad if stayed for he wanted it but also not sad as he went for He wanted it! And it seemed that the song the duo performed at, after elimination, Deewane Chalein Jab Saath, seemed like Vicky’s attempt to cheer Sunny up and the two really sang well this time!
At the Danger Zone, Sohaib Hassan of Karachi sang Zara Dholki Bajao Goriyo of Adnan Sami Khan and where Ali Haider praised him for being confident and giving a good comeback and gave him 8/10 marks while Mikaal Hassan too, noted the contestant’s marked improvement and gave him 7/10. Muhammad Ahsan Pappu added to the comment that though Sohaib had improved but at this level at the contest, just improvement was not enough, one had to be the best to win the Rs.1Crore contract.
Sunny & Vicky of Karachi, on the other hand, sang Akhiyan Udeek Diyan of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Pappu felt that the two were not comfortable with the song, gave a bad start and only in the end it seemed that they were singing, reserving a 6/10 for the duo. Mikaal Hassan also gave them 6/10 saying that all the good singers have set their standards at PSI and one judges them on those standards. Not always their album would require songs of Rahat Fateh Ali and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and there had to be a variety to impress the listeners. Garaj Baras last time remained a good song choice but it was a weak song choice coupled with a disappointing effort.
Ali Haider seconded the standards part and disappointing effort saying that people like Asad Abbas and Sunny & Vicky remained few from whom the judges expected no mistake as the duo had sung well 9 times on the scale of 10 at least, had the right entertainment value, but this time it seemed that the faces were of Sunny & Vicky but not the tone as Sunny’s singing couldn’t well support his bro and though it was the home crowd for the contestant and it meant that the two had to be double impressive, but Sunny & Vicky made an unforgivable mistake by not singing well.
M.Afzal of Lahore was next to go and sang Aaj Kaala Jora Pa. It seemed that he was still in fever which he has been in, since the past 5 weeks. Ali Haider said that he was not good and not bad, giving him 7/10 marks. Mikaal Hassan gave 6/10 marks saying that the contestant had not sung as par his own set standard and quite better was expected from him at which Afzal promised to make his mark and show to everyone that he was worth something. Pappu couldn’t resist his snide comments and told the contestant not to jump off the parachute from Yadgar, in order to make his mark but better concentrate on his singing instead.
Haroon Shahid from Lahore of course sang a pop song Sajna Sajna which Pappu noted, was out of tune at the start. The energy was there, he said, like always, but despite potential, the contestant needed to work more on the singing, giving him 7/10. Ali Haider appreciated Haroon for choosing Junoon’s such a song which not only suited Haroon but he managed it well too. As such songs are expression-based, he had done not bad but it could not be termed as good either and he needed to work very hard, Ali Haider said, giving Haroon 7/10. Mikaal too, termed the song choice and potential as good but could not say the same about the vocals which he said, was not the strongest point for Haroon. However, he said, amidst many classical singers, Haroon had to be there to bring pop flavour to the contest!
Where the votes brought M.Afzal, Haroon Shahid, Sunny & Vicky and Sohaib Hassan in Danger Zone, there the judges’ marks gave way for this week’s elimination, letting the Dynamic Duo slip away from the PSI stage for good. The video shown of the contestant gave an overview of the fact that the duo had been performing together since school. One wonders why the third of the triplets never got involved! Anyway, with Deewane Chalein Jab Saath, the two left PSI stage amidst teary audience, giving way for Eid Songs Round… So stay tuned to Pakistan Sangeet Icon and keep voting for your favourite contestant!
